article imageVideo: Radio legend Mike Francesa falls asleep on air, again

By Yukio Strachan     Nov 15, 2012 in Odd News
New York - Mike (Sports Pope) Francesa appeared to briefly fall asleep again while at the microphone during his WFAN radio show Wednesday.
In the clip above, watch as the 58-year-old host slowly closes his eyes as he talks about the Jets with Peter Schwartz and then jolts awake right as the eyelids touch, as if someone said something in his ear, the Big Lead said.
Ordinarily this wouldn't be much of an issue, but Francesa's latest nod follows another episode in September that, to Francesa's dismay, went viral on YouTube.
That's because since it is a radio show, it's also broadcast on the Yankees Entertainment and Sports (YES) Network and caught on camera.
In case you missed it, the host dozed off during "Mike's On: Francesa on the FAN" on New York radio, as he listened to his guest, Sweeny Murti, opine in advance of the Yankees game against the Red Sox, the Daily Mail reported.
Watch Francesa doze off in the middle of a Murti soliloquy in the hilarious clip below:
Francesa suddenly lifted his head and sure seemed to have the wide-eyed look of someone who fell asleep on the job. To his credit, he also seemed to wake up at the right time, just as Murti wrapped up his point, the Huffington Post reported at the time.
"Alright we're talking with Sweeny, obviously, as we get ready for uh, a trip to Boston," Francesa said after appearing to silently mouth something to someone else in the studio with him.
How did Francesa respond?
At the top of his Thursday show that week, Francesa said he did “close” his eyes but adamantly contended: “I was never asleep. I promise you.” He said he had been up all Monday night taking care of his son Jack who experienced “an exercise induced asthma attack,” adding he also had had a late Sunday night watching football, the NY Daily News wrote.
“I was exhausted. I’ve done that many times through the years,” Francesa said. “Maybe I have to never try that again at this stage because I was exhausted late in the show.”
“I did close my eyes during the Sweeny interview and that was on TV and it's become this bone of contention because I guess everything we do on this show does,” Francesa went on. “But I promise you, I was never asleep. I promise you. I promise you I won’t come in without sleeping because my wife said I can’t do that anymore.
Hopefully, she hasn't seen the latest clip.
