article imageOp-Ed: Some really big names say 'Just Label It' on GMOs (Video)

By Anne Sewell     Nov 14, 2012 in Food
A whole load of artists, famous actors, chefs and other well-known celebrities got together to voice their support for labeling of genetically engineered foods and your right to know what you are eating.
In the video above you will see, among others, Michael J. Fox of Spin City and the Back to the Future fame, Tom Colicchio of Top Chef, Emily VanCamp and friends from Revenge, Julie Bowen from Modern Family, James Taylor, Daryl Hannah and Chevy Chase and his daughter, plus many more.
On top of that, this fun video is accompanied by brand new music from Ziggy Marley.
More than 90% of Americans support Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandated labeling of genetically engineered foods.
The Just Label It Campaign is working hard to make this a fact and all the celebrities in the video are joining the millions to voice their support for labeling of GMOs.
We need to make informed choices as a consumer, we have a right to know what it is in our food and what we are feeding our families. However, without labeling, we don't have that ability when it comes to GE foods.
The bad news is that the FDA may soon approve genetically engineered salmon, which would be the first genetically engineered animal appearing on supermarket shelves in the US.
Also the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is considering a new type of herbicide-resistant corn that will promote the use of yet more chemicals in the food supply.
Just Label it is a national coalition of more than 600 diverse organizations dedicated to the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered (GE) and genetically modified (GMO) foods. Their message is simple. Consumers have the right to know what is in their food. So, just label it!
