article image1st Car of the Year with no internal combustion engine (video)

By Anne Sewell     Nov 13, 2012 in Driving
Meet the Tesla Model S - an electric car with a difference. Forget the idea of a little golf cart that you plug in each night. This Motor Trend 2013 Car of the Year is the real deal.
The Tesla Model S has all the features you would expect from a car that earned the honor of car of the year, with a light body, roomy cabin, advanced design and plenty of load capacity.
What the car does not have is an internal combustion engine, as you will see from the video above.
Motor Trend loves the car and says it drives like a sports car and "sashays like a supermodel working a Paris catwalk."
With a 17 inch touch screen for navigation or even browsing the web, this car is really original, can comfortably seat 5 persons, and can even put two more in the trunk.

Produced by the Silicon Valley-based electric car-maker Tesla, run by Elon Musk, this all-electric super-car starts at $58,570 and has an initial range of 265 miles. For a higher price, you can stretch that to around 300 miles. While this is not enough for a cross-country trip, a new network of Supercharger fast charging stations could make it more practical for long journeys.
