In this bohemian Sydney enclave, anybody who was dressed normally would have stood out. The ‘people watching’ was almost as interesting as the entertainment and market stalls, of which there were 280. This year was the 34th
Newtown Festival, the first one being back in 1979.
Newtown Neighbourhood Centre
The Newtown Festival is organised by the
Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC) to raise funds for projects both in Newtown and other parts of Sydney.
Music
There were three stages with different musical performers. The main stage was where the largest audience was to be found.
Stalls
Market stalls and food stalls offered a range of options from around the world.
There were also stalls promoting political parties and community organisations.
Writers’ Tent
The Writers’ Tent featured Maxine McKew: Tales from the Political Trenches. Other writers speaking included Steve Lewis & Chris Uhrman, Michael Mobbs and Becky Crew.
