article imageOp-Ed: Right wingers rant on America being destroyed and other nonsense

By Marcus Hondro     Nov 10, 2012 in Politics
Is it me, or are some who live on the right side of the political spectrum taking to hyperbole when they wax on the recent election results? I mean do they tend to overstate things a little? And is there anything to do about it?
There was Donald Trump, as reported on DJ, suggesting via Twitter that a revolution was needed after Obama and the Democrats won the presidency and a Senate majority; he's since said he stands by that tweet ("stop this travesty" that shrewd political commentator wrote). Also reported in DJ, there was the case of the loopy 22-year-old from near San Jose who used a racial epitaph to describe President Obama and suggested she'd be happy to see him harmed. She was just so mad!!!
Ted Nugent: One hit blunder
And, again reported here, there is that ranter extraordinaire, Ted 'Cat Scratch Fever' Nugent. Ted has a history of anger being directed at Democrats and Obama and DJ reporter John Thomas Didymus writes that in 2007, while holding machine guns on stage - he's a tough guy, Ted is! - he said the following: "Obama, he's a piece of shit. I told him to suck on my machine gun. Hey Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch."
To add to those rather helpful and articulate comments, this is what Ted said, what he tweeted, after Obama won his second term on Tuesday: "Pimps whores and welfare brats and their soulless supporters hav a President to destroy America."
America the soon-to-be destroyed?
These odd and angry people are not crawling but blundering loudly out of the woodwork since the election and there are others besides those noted above. This is what I wonder: do they not have any sense of decorum? Any sense of the greater good? Must they be so loud and proud of their ignorance?
It just seems folks could tone it down. Say tweet: "It bugs me Obama won again but let's all work together to find solutions."? Of course I'm dreaming but surely the rational among you will agree that suggesting America is about to be destroyed is a bit over the top. Does he actually mean the U.S. is now about to be DESTROYED? And calling someone a name associated with centuries of abuse of black persons because they have ideas different than yours and YET WERE DULY ELECTED seems over the top, too. Further, did Donald really mean that people should...what? Attack other people and government buildings? Because...because democracy was served?
They won't ever see the point. It's pointless pointing it out. They're a part of the problem, not the solution and in the final analysis there is nothing to do about them except to ignore them and to continue on in spite of them. To persevere despite their negative nonsense and anger-fueled, delusional diatribes. Like Barack Obama and the Democrats are persevering - and as black people historically have - and like America perseveres and forever will.
