London - There was standing room only at Thursday night's meeting of a pressure group dedicated to keeping Lewisham Hospital's accident and emergency department open, but there is a long way to go.
The meeting, anticipated here November 5, is said to have been attended by over 500 people. That was certainly the impression given by the BBC's local news programme Friday morning. Present were people active in local politics, doctors, and anyone who cares about emergency services in Lewisham. Footage of the report has been uploaded to YouTube by Iain Wilson, who spoke to us before.
If you live in Lewisham or near Lewisham, you could be affected by these cuts. Accident and emergency means exactly that; these are services no one wants to have to use, and which you might not ever use, but if you need it only once, and it is not there...
In addition to the dedicated website, Save Lewisham Hospital is on Facebook.
The public rally in support of the A&E department is on Saturday, November 24 at 2pm, and will almost certainly be even bigger.
