article imageCelebration erupts outside of White House in wake of Obama win Special

By Bill Lewis     Nov 7, 2012 in Politics
Washington - As news of President Obama's election was announced supporters broke out in celebration in front of the White House and throughout downtown D.C.
Chants of "Obama", "Four more years" and "USA" filled the air interlaced with the singing of the National Anthem and God Bless America as hundreds of Obama supporters gathered outside of the White House to celebrate Obama's victory.
From the center of the crowd it was apparent that people of all stripes had gathered to show their pleasure and excitement at the results. College students, working professionals, Blacks, Whites, Latinos, gay and straight, all gathered and joined in the enthusiasm of the moment.
DC has long been considered a liberal stronghold, and so it will come as little surprise to most that the city is now celebrating, however, this seemed like more. The people I spoke with were excited about more than just the reelection of Obama. They were excited about the hopes of equal rights for the LGBT community; they were excited about the victories of down ticket races like Elizabeth Warren; but most of all they there was a real excitement around what can only be described as a hope. A hope that we can now move forward and past the political bickering of the election cycle.
