The BBC has unveiled plans for a third season of Luther, the crime drama penned by Neil Cross, which stars Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson.
Four new episodes of Luther will begin filming later in November.
Idris Elba, who plays Detective Chief Inspector John Luther in the BBC drama series, is well known for playing Stringer Bell in HBO's The Wire. In Luther, Elba is joined by Indira Varma (Rome) as his estranged wife, Zoe Luther; Paul McGannn (Doctor Who) as her lover, Mark North; Warren Brown (A Good Cop) as Detective Sergeant Justin Ripley; and Stephen MacKintosh (The Sweeney) as Detective Chief Inspector Ian Reed. Ruth Wilson (The Prisoner) plays Luther's nemesis, Alice Morgan.
Earlier this year, Cross hinted at both a movie version of Luther and an Alice spin-off mini-series, both, according to Digital Spy, likely to follow the third series.
As well as being a screenwriter, Cross is also a succesful novelist. His books include Natural History (2008) and Captured (2010). For 2013, he has written an episode of Doctor Who.
