Once again, Dr. Jill Stein is in police custody for participating in a protest. She was arrested in Texas this morning while trying to deliver food and supplies to Tar Sands Blockade activists who are attempting to stop the Keystone XL pipeline.
Earlier this month, Stein was arrested while protesting against the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) for their unfair treatment of third party candidates. In early August, Stein was arrested for protesting against Fannie Mae bank foreclosures in Philadelphia. Her arrests have given her the opportunities, which she otherwise would not have had, to speak out on issues that are important to her campaign.
This morning after her arrest, Stein issued a statement in which she opines that Obama and Romney
are competing, as we saw in the debates, for the role of Puppet In Chief for the fossil fuel industry. Both deserve that title.
Stein, along with Justice Party candidate Rocky Anderson, has made climate change a major focus of her campaign. She advocates cutting the military budget by about 350 billion, letting the Bush tax cuts expire, and eliminating subsides for fossil fuels and nuclear energy in order to invest hundreds of billions in green energy.
In a email letter to Green Party supporters this afternoon, Stein's campaign manager Ben Manski writes,
The real criminals are fossil fuel CEOs plundering our world to maximize short-term profits, and the politicians who enable them.
Stein is currently at Wood County Jail, handcuffed, awaiting processing.
