article imageOp-Ed: Google Unveils New Line of Nexus Devices

By James He     Oct 29, 2012 in Technology
Google is officially in the tablet business. Google recently announced entry of two more Nexus devices to be added in the Play Store.
The Google Nexus 4 and the Google Nexus 10 have made their way to Google's Play Store, a marketplace specifically designed for Android resources from applications to music to movies. While they are not officially released, visitors can browse the site and get an overview of the expected specifications.
The Nexus 4 is a phone designed with partnership of LG Electronics. Under the Play store's listing, the Nexus 4 will be available for purchase on Tuesday, November 13th, but interested parties will be able to opt-in email notifications for any new news releases regarding the device.
The Nexus 4 will come in both an 8GB and 16GB model with all the necessary standard features. Users will automatically receive the HSPA+ and WiFi connectivity options along with the Android 4.2 operating system.
Based on the tech specs alone, the Nexus 4 is definitely giving Samsung and their Galaxy S III a run for their money. The Nexus 4 features a much denser screen with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixel resolution (320 ppi) on a 4.7 inch Corning Gorilla Glass 2 screen.
On top of that, the Nexus 4 is equipped with a powerful 2100 mAh lithium power battery capable of wireless charging. Yes, wireless charging! This is definitely a first. Although some companies have developed sleeves allowing phones to wirelessly charge, the Nexus 4 is the first true wireless chargeable phone. However, according to the box content details, there is no mention of how the wireless charging work. Under "what's in the box" section, there is a mention of the inclusion of an "USB sync/charge cable". Wireless charging details will probably revealed at a later time.
It comes as a big surprise that the Nexus 4 is designed and built by LG despite their reputation of producing mediocre devices. It also appears that Google's work with Asus is now over and we won't be seeing any more Asus any time soon.
However, despite LG's reputation, the Nexus 4 is truly astonishing with three key features promoted through the Play store.
1. Best of Google
Google is offering all of their services on the Nexus 4 from the Maps to the Chrome browser to Gmail and to YouTube. Furthermore, they have revealed their newest development of the Google Now feature. Google Now provides users with all the latest updates from traffic, flights, to even the final scores of your favorite sports team.
2. 360 Camera
Find out what taking pictures truly mean with Google's 360° panoramas camera technology. In other words, imagine Google Streetview, but now with any image you take from the camera.
3. Android Beam
It appears Google has been working on their very own solution of a device to device connection. The Android Beam allows users to share any form of media instantaneously through the Android Beam technology. This may not seem like much until you realize the potential.
The Nexus 10, on the other hand, shares pretty much the same tech specs as the Nexus 4 except for a much more powerful battery of 9000 mAh, dual-core A15 processor, a magnetic pogo pin charger. Instead, the Nexus 10 will be offered in a 16GB model and a 32GB model. As before, it will be available via the Play store starting Tuesday, November 13.
