British band Depeche Mode recently announced their plans for a new studio album and a 2013 world tour that starts in Tel Aviv, Israel, followed by tours in Europe and the U.S., in a news conference this week.
The new wave band responsible for hits "Enjoy the Silence", "I Feel You", "Strange Love" "Everything Counts" and "Somebody" made the announcement in Paris Wednesday on a press conference introducing one of their new singles and a music video.
Formed in Essex in 1977, the English synthpop band sold over 100 million album records and singles worldwide since their debut 'Speak and Spell' in 1981.
Lead vocalist Dave Gahan speaks about the longevity of the band's 33 year career in the press interview, as quoted in Reuters, "To be making music for more than half our lives ... it's pretty incredible to still be able to do that."
Gahan with other members, Andy Fletcher (bass, synthesizers) and Martin Gore (keyboards), were dressed in all black and made jokes on how their ages, now in their 50's, on how they were still able to survive in the music industry.
The 80's band last tour was in 2010 in support for their album, "Tour of The Universe." Gore, the band's chief songwriter reveals a couple of teaser for their 13th studio album, where they plan to include 20 tracks.
"I think there are three or four songs that are up there with some of the best we've ever done," said Gore, as quoted in Euronews.
Depeche Mode is one of the pioneers in the British New Wave scene in the 1980's, well known for their blend of keyboard synthesizers, musical samples, industrial sound, driving percussion, textured music and moody touchy lyrics.
The English band has been cited as one of the most influential group over the last 30 years by observers and music critics. The group has been mentioned by other musicians which includes Chester Bennington/ Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park), Chris Martin (Coldplay), techno musicians Juan Atkins and Derrick May and Columbian sensation Shakira as the influence and inspiration in their music.
The British band's schedule for their stadium tour can be seen in their official website, where it starts in Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park on May 7, including dates in Rome's Olympic Stadium, Moscow's Locomotive Stadium, Belarus' Minsk Arena and Paris' State de France.
The band released their new track "Angel of Love", accompanied by a music video in the press conference in Paris in October 23.
