On Friday, France's lower house voted to fully reimburse all abortions, as well as making contraception free for minors.
According to
Mercury News, currently national medical insurance pays in full when minors and the poor get abortions, while other women are reimbursed for up to 80 percent of the abortion's cost, which can be around $600. Currently contraception is partially reimbursed.
According to
Aljazeera, the bill is now going to senate, where it is likely to pass. The bill says that it is an obligatory state service to cover a woman's right to stop an unwanted pregnancy.
According to
Washington Post, there are some groups that complained that the price of an abortion is just one impediment to the process. They say that there are only a few doctors who offer the procedure and they say that there needs to be more information about who offers abortion.
Under the bill, €450 is the most that will be covered, but some medical service providers charge more than that amount for an abortion.
