Gazans attacked Israelis with 80 rockets in the of the most severe rocket barrage targeting southern Israel in recent years.
The 80 rockets and mortar shells hit the western Negev on Wednesday, seriously injuring two people. Rockets fired from Gaza have rained down on Israel for two days, according to a Jerusalem Post report.
Two IDF retaliatory strikes on rocket crews in the Gaza Strip killed three Hamas men said to be rocket launchers earlier in the conflict, according to Palestinians and the Post.
Meanwhile, Israeli officials did not immediately comment on the Gaza strike, however IDF tanks fired on terrorist targets in southern Gaza after one barrage of Gaza rockets struck Israel.
Two foreign workers believed to be Thai men were severely wounded and a third was less seriously wounded by a rocket strike on a chicken coop in an agricultural area of the Eshkol region Wednesday morning. Three Israelis were hospitalized and treated for shock.
Southern District Police counted 32 Gazan projectiles that hit the Lachish region and 28 more struck the western Negev Wednesday, rattling the nerves if Israeli residents.
Hamas’s armed wing, Izzadin Kassam claimed responsibility for the Hamas rocket fire, and published video on its website showing multiple rockets being fired at the Jewish state.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak toured Israel’s border with the Strip and visited the IDF’s Gaza Division on Wednesday. Barak then joined an evaluation meeting to decide Israel’s next course of action. The prime minister warned that Israeli ground troops may be deployed in Gaza to search for and destroy rocket launchers.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Hamas government announced that it would complain to the UN against Israel’s “new aggression” against the Gaza Strip.
