Toronto - This morning a woman was found in a laneway near 510 Ontario Street by Toronto Police suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Toronto Police report that officers responded to a call for unknown trouble at 510 Ontario Street this morning just after 7:00 a.m. At the scene the officers found a woman laying in a laneway dead from what appears to be stab wounds.
Police are currently viewing security camera footage from the area.
It is being reported that a white male dressed in dark clothing and wearing a cap approached the woman from behind. He then stabbed her several times before fleeing the area.
Constable Wendy Drummond, Toronto Police Service, said during a phone interview that the victim has been identified and the police are in the process of notifying next of kin.
"At this stage of the investigation it appears that this was a random act," Drummond said, "Several witnesses were at the scene and attempted to intervene with the suspect. Det/Sgt Gary Giroux has said that surveillance video will be critical to this investigation."
The suspect is 5'10".
