It is alleged Rebecca Sardoni, 28, described as irate, boarded a school bus in Toms River, New Jersey Friday morning. She yelled, "Who is Vinny?" and when a boy at the back of the bus raised his hand, she approached him. She is accused of cursing and then slapping him across the face. It is also alleged she slapped the boy sitting next to Vinny.
Sardoni's mother, Stephanie Sardoni, 51, got on the school bus with her daughter. The 9-year-old's grandmother is alleged to have begun yelling and screaming as soon as she boarded the bus.
Rebecca Sardoni has been charged with simple assault, making a terroristic threat, and criminal trespass. Her mother faces one charge of criminal trespass. Both women were issued summonses and released.
According to CBS News New York
, the 9-year-old's mother claims her daughter had been bullied and physically harassed by the two boys at East Dover Elementary School. She said her daughter reported the harassment to her school and was "hysterical" when she was told to write her thoughts down on paper.
New York Magazine
reports Sardoni denies slapping the two boys. She said the bus driver, who let her and her mother on the bus, was the one who asked who Vinny was. She also said the driver allowed her to go to the rear of the bus to speak with him. Sardoni said the only reason she boarded the bus was to tell the driver what was happening because she was not satisfied with what the school was doing about her daughter's problem.
Bruce Bradford, the stepfather of one of the boys, said his stepson received a broken lip and was in pain after Sardoni allegedly pushed his head against the window. Bradford is quoted in the Asbury Park Press
as saying, "We're still trying to put together what happened. But what I understand is, supposedly something was said to a little girl on the bus. Not by my stepson, by another kid who was on the bus."
According to police, both boys were treated at school for cuts to their mouths. One boy's parents later took him to Community Medical Center where he was treated for a neck injury.
The school is not commenting on the incident because a police investigation is underway. Police are also investigating the 9-year-old girl's complaint of harassment.
