Meic Stevens, known as the Welsh Dylan, has disclosed that Jimmy Savile's interest in young girls was well known. Stevens claims that Savile was entirely open about it.
According to Stevens:
It was an open thing, he was not secretive about it
Stevens career was promoted when he was discovered by Savile in the 1960s, according to BBC Music. The two shared a manager and Stevens and Savile got to know each other well.
Stevens told Wales Online how Savile would offer him underage girls, who he would objectify by describing them as "oysters".
Stevens claims that Savile had a "flunky" who would cruise the streets to pick up girls for him to abuse. According to Stevens, Savile would take the girls, two or more at a time, to a flat in Salford. He says he remembers the flat had boarded up windows and just a mattress on the floor.
Stevens said he was amazed that Savile got away with it. The only explanation he could offer was:
Unless he had something on people – he had a lot of influence and he had irons in the fire all over the place.
As the Daily Star reports, Stevens claims he repeatedly told Savile he was "f***ing disgusting". Savile would respond:
Do you want one?
Stevens never reported the incidents. He said:
It was rife. All the rock bands were doing it.
