Tofino is buzzing in anticipation of the Queen of the Peak all-female surf competition this weekend. Highlighting the array of temptingly talented female surfers on Vancouver Island's West Coast, proceeds from this annual event go to Keep A Breast Canada.
The brainchild of Surf Sister and the Shelter Restaurant, Queen of the Peak gives West Coast women an opportunity to show their surfing style while raising awareness and funds for Keep A Breast Canada. With family focused details like free child care, as well as dog sitting services, this annual event has been designed with the West Coast woman in mind (biking to the beach and car pooling is recommended). Competitors have their choice of events. Both longboard and shortboard competitions are available, as well as a Masters division (for surfers 40+) and a Princess of the Peak division for surfers 16 and under (the Princess division is appropriately sponsored by presenting sponsor Billabong's Billie Girls). Fellow presenting sponsor the Wickaninnish Inn hosted the Treat Yourself Like a Queen event on Wednesday, October 10th at their Ancient Cedars Spa. An evening of pampering (not to mention a little wine and artisan jewelry ogling) was the perfect precursor for a weekend of wicked waves.

Following a competitor check-in reception Friday at Surf Sister, the competition will take place on Saturday and Sunday (October 13th & 14th) between 8am - 4pm. Weather and wave conditions will determine whether surfers strut their stuff on either Tofino's North Chesterman Beach or the Cox Bay Beach. The weary water warriors will wrap up their weekend at an awards banquet Sunday evening at the Shelter Restaurant. Combined with events like Monday's "I Love Boobies Beach Bash" and Saturday's viewing of Billabong's surf movie "Daze at Sea", the week long Queen of the Peak competition is a fun filled week for all involved.
With sponsors like the Long Beach Surf Shop and Tofino Tourism, this annual event promises to offer attendees the quintessential Tofino experience. Surf, sand, and stormy weather...what more could you ask for from tantalizing Tofino?
