The Sagi Brigade of the Israeli Defense Forces has begun to train forces as a result of developments on the country's southern border with the Egyptian Sinai.
A news statement on the official IDF website states that the Sagi Brigade is training and organizing Israeli military forces along the Israeli-Egyptian frontier. They're doing this to deal with potential instability and terrorist attacks originating across the porous border.
The statement quotes Edom Division Commander Brigadier General Nadav Padan as stating that, "What is expected from us is to protect the area. It requires a level of creativity and analysis, and it demands that we respond to the evolving challenges."
Armoured Personnel Carriers are reportedly a sign of an increased IDF presence around the border area. A border fence is being constructed under the auspices of 'Project Hourglass'.
The southern Israeli border has already seen a handful of cross-border attacks by rogue terrorist elements operating in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.
Whilst the border area is generally quiet, the deployment of IDF is being made to ensure that the Israeli forces will be able to deal with future attacks by terrorist elements who are using the long border area from which to launch their attacks into southern Israel.
