At his first press conference as the re-elected leader of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez said that he still supports the government of Bashar al-Assad.
According to Euro News, Chavez asked how can he not support Assad's government because his government is the legit government of Syria. He then asked who should he be supporting, the terrorists and the so-called Transition Council? Chavez also said that he does not know how some governments throughout Europe can meet with "terrorists" even though they claim to be serious.
According to Salon, Chavez said that he believes that Assad's enemies abroad are the ones that caused the conflict in Syria, because they want to topple him.
According to Globe And Mail, Chavez then said that the USA is one of the most responsible for the conflict. He then called upon President Obama to think about things and take a different track.
Chavez said that he would like to help put an end to the conflict in Syria, but he said that there wasn't much a country like Venezuela could do.
