Photo essay: The Great Pumpkin Festival, Clarence, N.Y. Special

Clarence - The fall season is full swing in Clarence, N.Y. An annual event, The Great Pumpkin Farm festival attracted many people over the three-day Columbus Day weekend.
Located in the Buffalo, N.Y. suburbs, The Great Pumpkin fall festival appears to be a popular event. I happened to be visiting the region over the holiday and we'd decided to check it out.
The farm refers to itself as the "largest family event in the region", and there did prove to be many events and goings-on throughout the day including a variety of foods, contests, rides, games, crafts, entertainment and more, with primarily fall-themed activities of course.
Each weekend throughout the course of the festival different events are taking place. One of the highlights this past weekend was pumpkin carver Steve Dahike creating designs on huge pumpkins.
As with every weekend, a pumpkin pie eating contest took place; one for the kids, another for adults.
What's a fall festival without Halloween features? In the "Pumpkin Palace" visitors could take a break and buy a treat from the bakery or peruse the decorations in the Halloween Store. Also, on the grounds was a "Boo Barn" which is advertised as "more fun than scary".
For a full description of the daily activities and attractions, along with the special weekend events, please see the farm's website. The festival runs through Oct. 31.
