According to reports, Joran Van Der Sloot, who is serving 28 years in a Lima prison for murdering a Peruvian woman, says he is going to be a father. His lawyer has confirmed that Van Der Sloot had a conjugal visitor, but has not confirmed the pregnancy.
Maximo Altez told The AP that a woman named Leidy Figueroa Uceda is "registered as a conjugal visitor of Joran," but denied knowing anything about the pregnancy.
"I told them (Dutch Newspaper De Telegraaf) I didn't know anything in that respect," Altez said.
He told ABC News that Uceda has denied that she is pregnant.
Van Der Sloot was convicted of robbing and killing Stephany Flores in 2010.
He is also wanted in the United States in connection with the 2005 disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba. Natalee was declared legally dead earlier this year.
According to The Daily Mail, Van Der Sloot will be extradited to the US after he finishes his sentence in Peru.
There have been other rumors surrounding the infamous prisoner. In July, it was rumored that Van Der Sloot was planning to get married in prison. It is unclear whether the woman he has claimed to have impregnated is the same woman he was allegedly planning to marry.
Van Der Sloot reportedly told De Telegraaf that Uceda, who he simply called "Leidi" was pregnant with his child, ABC News reports.
Previously, Dutch media has identified the woman as Van Der Sloot's girlfriend, The AP reports. The media also reported that the "couple" had conceived a son together in 2011, but Uceda has denied these claims.
Van Der Sloot claims that the woman who is allegedly carrying his child "forgot" to take her birth control pill, and she would not have an abortion because it goes against her Catholic beliefs. There is no DNA proof that Van Der Sloot is the father or that the woman is pregnant at all, but Van Der Sloot just has this feeling he's the father.
Both Van Der Sloot's lawyer, Maximo Altez, and American lawyers have said that the convicted murderer of Stephany Flores, and suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway could not avoid extradition by marrying and/or impregnating a Peruvian woman,ABC News reports. Peru says it will still extradite Van Der Sloot after he finishes out his sentence.
