NBC's 'Saturday Night Live' examines the perspectives of the undecided voter, noting the broad nature of the questions these swing voters possess.
In a spoofed advertising message from an organization known as the "Low Information Voters of America," NBC's "Saturday Night Live" tackled the questions and concerns of the undecided voter; a population that is still weighing its options in the face of one of the most polarizing elections in American history.
"This election will determine the future of our country," the commercial begins. "And this election will be determined by the Undecided Voter."
The SNL public service announcement drives home the importance of the undecided voter's perspective, offering a wide array of questions that plague the minds of these voters.
"Before you get our vote, you're going to have to answer some questions," a spokeswoman for Low Information Voters of America explained. "Questions like: When is the election? How soon do we have to decide? What are the names of the two people running? And be specific."
But as the Daily Beast reported, undecided voters are a menace and are a considerable source of frustration for politicians.
“When it comes to politics, undecided voters don’t know anything," said Michael Haselswerdt, former head of Canisius College’s political science department. "And they’re not going to pay attention long enough to learn anything.”
The SNL team illustrates this point well.
"What happens if the president dies," one undecided voter from SNL asks. "Has anyone thought about who would replace him? What's your plan, gentlemen?"
