A 38-year-old woman from the UK coughed up an entire tumor a year ago, and now doctors have told her that she is cancer free.
Claire Osborn, 38, was shocked when a 2cm lump flew right out of her mouth while she was coughing. She decided to take the lump to her doctor, and that was when she was told that it was an aggressive form of throat and mouth cancer, called Metastatic Adenocarcinoma.
According to Medical Daily, doctors first told Osborn that she only had a 50 percent chance of survival. She then underwent an operation to see if cancer cells were still present in her body. The first scan, done back in February, showed that there were no other tumors in the body. Last week Osborn went for another scan and the doctors told her that she was free of cancer.
According to Daily Mail, the mother of six said that the consultant turned to her and told her congratulations. The consultant said that it appeared that Osborn coughed up all of the cancer.
Osborn said that she was shocked and she couldn't believe that a coughing fit saved her life. She went onto say that if she did not cough up the tumor, then the tumor may have ended up spreading to other organs.
The head and neck surgeon who treated her said that it is rare for someone to cough up cancer, but somehow Osborn managed to do it.
