article imageDog shoots owner in France

By Katerina Nikolas     Sep 20, 2012 in Odd News
A French man who was accidentally shot by his dog blames himself for the incident which resulted in the amputation of his hand.
"He's adorable," declared 55-year-old Rene, speaking of his beloved dog that managed to shoot him. Rene took the Blue Gascony Basset hound dog along on a deer trip. The dog accidentally caught the trigger of the gun while leaping up to cuddle its owner, shattering the hunter's hand.
ABC News reported Rene, who refused to give his surname, said “I looked at my hand and straight away called my son who was not far away." He was transported to a hospital in Bordeaux by helicopter.
The Telegraph reported that the Frenchman, who needed to have his hand amputated, blames himself for leaving the safety catch off. He explained how he became a victim of his best friend, saying the dog "jumped on me to give me a cuddle, I think. As he jumped, he put a paw on the gun."
The dog is not yet fully trained as a hunting hound and Rene is adamant that the accident is "not the dog’s fault."
