article imageSenior citizen crime spree, of sorts

Valley Springs - Valley Springs, California has had its share of senior citizen crime this week. For a small rural town, they've been busy with some weird ones.
Old Geezers appear to be going off the deep end lately in the Foothills region of California.
MML reports two incidents today.
Two 70 + year old men have been arrested this week for crimes involving meth sales plus shooting at officers, and also one for child pornography!
74 year old Donald Madrid of Valley Springs, Ca. was arrested by Calaveras Sheriff's deputies after firing one round from a handgun through a closed door at the detectives.
The Sheriff's Department and a SWAT team was onsite with regard to a narcotics search warrant.
The Officers serving the search warrant were unharmed, and Madrid was "immediately" taken into custody after firing the shot.
Sheriff's detectives found a quantity of meth, plus packaging materials at the home, which indicated Madrid was allegedly selling meth.
Also in Valley Springs, 77 year old William Wray Chain, was arrested after an investigation by the Sacramento Valley High Tech Crimes Task Force.
Madrid was charged with:
Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer
Possession of a Controlled Substance for Sale
Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance
Under the Influence while in the Possession of a Loaded Firearm
Enhancement for being armed with a firearm during the commission of a felony
No charges related to Unlawful Enhancement of Social Security or Unlawful Pension Enhancement were mentioned in the charges against Madrid.
Chain was arrested for, and charged with possession of child pornography.
Must be something in the water over there. One question did come to mind though: Just what the heck does a 74 year old guy do when he smokes meth? Is he over-cleaning his home? Polishing his dentures...repeatedly?
