Sydney - A sex worker ‘red umbrella’ protest was held outside NSW Parliament House with representatives from Scarlet Alliance Australian Sex Workers Association, ahead of the local elections on Saturday 8 September.
The message on their banner read ‘No bad whores, just bad laws’.
Protesters at the rally held signs saying ‘Decriminalisation = Happy Hookers’, ‘Licensing = Jobs for the Boys’, ‘Get Councils out of Sex Workers Bedrooms’ and ‘Regulators out of step with reality “Sex Workers Work!”’
The speakers at the rally included:
Elena Jeffreys from Scarlet Alliance, Australian Sex Workers Association;
Australian Sex Party Candidate for City of Sydney Lord Mayor;
Jules Kim, Migration Project Manager and Acting CEO of Scarlet Alliance, Australian Sex Workers Association.
