article imageMan DNC claims laid off from Bain company never an employee

By Larry Clifton     Sep 6, 2012 in Politics
Charlotte - At the Democrat National Convention Tuesday, David Foster told his story about being one of 750 steelworkers who lost their jobs when the Bain-controlled company GST steel filed for bankruptcy in the early 1990s.
Billed as a former employee of the company controlled by Bain, his was a sad personal account that blamed Mitt Romney for his misfortune.
"In 2001, with GST bankrupt and Romney still CEO of Bain, I stood in front of hundreds of steelworkers in their 50s and 60s, and retirees in their 70s and 80s, and told them Romney and Bain had broken their promises. Jobs, vacation pay, severance, health insurance and pension benefits that were promised - they were all gone," he said.
But, there’s a problem with Foster’s story, and the DNC billing. Foster was never an employee at the company. Foster was actually a union organizer for United Steel Workers of America, according to a former spokesman for GST steel, as quoted by ABC OTUS News.
"David Foster was never an employee of GST Steel's Kansas City plant. He was employed by the United Steelworkers of America as their regional union director to represent GST Steel, but was not employed at our facility," said to B.C. Huselton.
This is not the first apparent imposter to show up in the Obama campaign. An Obama campaign TV ad, supposedly telling the story of an unemployed GST worker, implied the man’s wife died of cancer because he lost health insurance coverage when Bain shuttered the plant. Actually, the death occurred years later and the ad is ranked "false " by Politifact.
In another awkward Obama ad produced by an Obama pac, the star, Donnie Box, laid into the president during an on-line magazine interview with In These Times.
"I think Obama is a jerk, a pantywaist, a lightweight, a blowhard. He hasn't done a goddamn thing that he said he would do. When he had a Democratic Senate and Democratic Congress, he didn't do a damn thing. He doesn't have the guts to say what’s on his mind," said Box.
The misleading representations and awkward ads preceded another Democratic Party misstep that occurred during their convention when delegates had to hold three voice-votes to reinsert “God” and language on Jerusalem back into their platform amid boos.
