Gig Harbor - School is a place where we send our children to learn and become successful adults in society. It is meant to be a place where they can look up to the teachers of a classroom and go to them for advice.
As reported by The Huffington Post, a bullying attack by not only a child’s classmates but, his teacher as well occurred in February at a Gig Harbor middle school. However, cell phone video of the attacks surfaced just this week. The appalling footage shows more than a dozen students dragging the then-eighth-grade boy around the classroom, writing on his feet and stuffing his socks in his mouth.
John Rosi, who at the time was to be teaching a math and reading preparation class, joins in on the harassment of the student. He is seen in the video poking the child in the belly and wrestling him in the classroom. It is reported that Rosi was suspended 10 days without pay and transferred to another school after the school district learned of the attack. As far as the parents, Randall and Karla Kinney, of the bullied child, they have requested that Rosi be terminated from teaching. They have also called upon local police for a criminal investigation.
Superintendent Chuck Cuzzetto has said that although Rosi displayed “inappropriate classroom management,” it was an isolated incident in his eighteen year career. He believes the punishment that was given to Rosi was appropriate. Rosi apologized for the incident in a letter, but said he did not "view the incident as anything more than harmless childhood horse play and a chance for the kids to take a break from the daily grind."
The student has since then been placed into a private school and currently receiving counseling services
