Top social media sites for July-August - fighting for popularity

Social media continues to expand its popularity at a phenomenal rate globally. Number of users keep rising and a variety of new platforms keep appearing almost choking the consumer with choice.

All keep pushing their relative advantages in order to compete for attention and loyalty from those online socialites. Stat Counter Global Stats have just published their statistics for July - August 2012 and listed the top seven social media sites as seen worldwide: 1. Facebook - taking a healthy chunk of 61.7% of users 2. YouTube - 9.4% 3. StumbleUpon - 9.02% falling from 28% 12 months ago 4. Pinterest - 8.91% - rising from 2.64% in March 2012 5. Twitter - 5.99% 6. Reddit - 3.41% 7. VKontakte - 0.42% In the US, Facebook leads, capturing nearly 47% of social media users, Pinterest comes in as second most popular with around 17% and Twitter in 6th place with only 4.3%. It will be interesting to see if Facebook's popularity falls over the coming months, now they have changed their policy and started limiting the distribution of posts for businesses and fan pages unless users buy ads.
