Toronto - The last long weekend before Labour Day brings summer to a close, as kids gear up to go back to school and some adults reluctantly realize it is soon time to pack up the cottage to return to work. But it isn't too late for end of summer fun, of course.
If you live in or near the city, there are still lots of room for fun in the sun this Labour Day weekend. Perhaps most well known is the official winding down of Canada's largest national exhibition, affectionately called the 'CNE,' by Toronto urbanites. Following the Labour Day parade, the festivities always sign off with a traditional air show.
But even if you're not able to make it to the last day of the fair, there's always something for everyone to do. From long, comfortable walks to drive in movies and last minute gatherings with friends and family, the weekend ahead may just get your creativity flowing with your end of summer bucket list.
Why not use up your last chance this season to ride the roller coasters at Canada's Wonderland or throw a picnic in the park? Should you dare, you might even take an unscheduled road trip and dart off to Niagara's wine country.
In my family, nothing says summer like a last minute get together, topped off with a great meal. Food, company and sharing. Is there anything better? Well, maybe an equally great tasting wine.
And of course, the beach. Although weather has been very permitting lately (not to mention, warm), the last long weekend of the season was always made more memorable for me with days spent wriggling sand free from my toes and taking a dip in the water as often as possible.
However you may spend your time, be sure to make it special and meaningful for you and yours. Whatever your fancy may be.
