, an inmate, Carlos Garcia, over a five month period used only a popsicle stick and a razor blade to cut bars from his cell window from where he later escaped. Once outside however, the inmate changed his mind and used a bed-sheet to climb back into the second-story cell. The jail in Lea County
, is located on the New Mexico-Texas state border. The detention center has since moved Garcia to a maximum-security ward at the state prison
located in Santa Fe, where an investigation is under way.
