According to figures that were obtained by the BBC, around 3,000 guns were stolen or reported lost by people who were registered to hold them in the past five years.
According to the BBC, more than half of the guns were shotguns.
The data was obtained and released after the BBC made a Freedom of Information request to the Home Office.
According to Independent, a spokesperson for the Home Office said that the UK has some of the lowest levels of gun crime in the world as well as some of the toughest gun laws in the world. The spokesperson also said that their society will not tolerate gun crimes.
According to i4u, since 1997 handguns have been banned throughout the UK.
According to Evening Standard, about a dozen revolvers were among the lost or stolen guns, as well as a 12-bore cannon.
In order for people to own guns in the UK, people need to have a secure box that is bolted to a wall and in order to receive a license they will also need to undergo a police inspection.
