article imageUPDATE: Isaac — Sometimes lightning, and hurricanes, strike twice

By Greta McClain     Aug 29, 2012 in World
New Orleans - Seven years ago today, one of the worst hurricanes in US history hit New Orleans Louisiana. At 6:45 p.m CDT Tuesday night, Hurricane Isaac made landfall near New Orleans.
It is ironic that Hurricane Isaac struck New Orleans and the gulf coast on the anniversary of Katrina. Luckily, Isaac only managed to develop into a Category I hurricane with sustained winds of 80 miles per hour when it first made landfall about 95 miles from New Orleans. The stormed bounced backward into the Gulf of Mexico before coming ashore again around round 11 p.m. At that time Isaac still had sustained winds of 80 miles per hour and was it was about 75 miles southeast of New Orleans.

In Plaquemines Parish, just southeast of New Orleans water has overflowed a levee and reports began to come in of unevacuated residents becoming stranded in their homes as the water rises, Billy Nungesser, the parish's president, told CNN Wednesday morning. At 4:06 PM WWL TV reported coffins have begun to float out of graves in New Orleans.
