Regular toilets may soon be out of fashion. The dog poo incinerator was just the beginning; now Paulee CleanTec have adapted their idea and invented a power generating device requiring no water that can turn human waste into sterile, odorless compost.
A recent article on Digital Journal described how Paulee CleanTec innovated the collection and disposal of pet waste through its AshPoopie. Taking the same idea, they have now branched out into human waste treatment using a similar method and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have recognised their new project "to create next generation sanitation technology to help make sanitation services truly safe and sustainable for the poor" and given Paulee CleanTec a one year grant of $110,000 to help advance the development of this new human waste disposal device.
Israel 21C report that the Paulee CleanTec's product does not need water and transforms human waste into a sterile odorless compost through a self-generating power system.
Oded Halperin, one of the company’s original investors says that Paulee CleanTec is one of the only Israeli companies that have ever received a grant from this foundation.
Halperin explained to Israel 21C that solid human waste is mixed with their chemical formula for about 30 seconds and becomes an odorless, sterile fertiliser which is then transferred into a removable compartment and can be used as compost. Liquid waste is sterilised separately in another compartment, and then re-used to flush the toilet. The whole device is powered by heat energy formed from the solid-waste process and stored in a battery.
A back up solar panel can be installed - no sewerage or electrical circuits are involved and no special maintenance is needed and it all costs around a few cents a month.
The plans are still highly secret and a patent is pending.
