Ever the bold innovator, always a maverick and forever taking the road less traveled, Lady Gaga is trying something new - recording her vocal tracks while in the buff. She's not doing it just for show but to make better music.
Reports in U.K.'s The Sun and the New Music Express speak to why she's going buff. “Gaga has really taken to the idea of naked recording," The Sun and NME say a 'source' said. “She has been recording vocals while she’s been completely starkers. She thinks it makes her voice sound better.”
Lady Gaga: Singing in the buff
Whether or not it makes her sound better while she records vocals for 'ARTPOP', her follow-up album to 'Born This Way' (there's a title she should have sang naked while recording!) is not so much in the eye but rather the ear of the beholder. So we'll have to remember how she's gone about recording 'Artpop' and judge her innovative methods accordingly.
One thing it does is get her is press, which is now something she cannot get by talking to media herself. Gaga told Oprah Winfrey on 'Oprah's Next Chapter' in March that she was giving media the silent treatment for an undetermined length of time. "Other than this interview, Oprah, I do not intend to speak to anyone for a very long time. No press, no television."
Artists have tried to do innovative things in the past while laying down vocal tracks. The late-Jim Morrison, singer for The Doors, had girlfriend Pamela Courson perform a certain sex act while he was recording the vocals for the title song of their album 'The Soft Parade' in 1969. It wasn't one of Morrison's more memorial performances, at least not for listeners who bought the album.
Gaga is in Europe recording while in the midst of her 'Born This Way Ball' tour and she'll remain there doing dates until early in October. In late October she will play Mexico City and then move on to Central and South America.
