article imageOp-Ed: Does Mitt Romney think a Black on White race war is imminent?

By Bill Schmalfeldt     Aug 25, 2012 in Politics
Why in God's name is Mitt Romney's Social Media Director, Bill Murphy, "retweeting" racist claptrap about the "inevitable black on white race war?" And how can Romney keep him on his staff?
Bill Murphy, former associate of convicted felon and creator of the Vice and Victory Agency, Ali Akbar (click here for links to multiple stories about Akbar) retweeted this piece of hate propaganda from the Pat Dollard blog.
(h/t to the artistically temperamental Ron Bryneart who shared this information online. Since he has few readers, we direct you to his blog. He used to be executive editor at Raw Story, but... you know. Take a look and help this poor, wound-too-tightly progressive relax a bit.)
The headline?
Those Who Deny The Black-On-White Race War Do So At The Nation’s Peril
Dollard's website is filled with your standard extreme right wing talking points, defending Romney's "birth certificate" humor from yesterday, showing graphic images of the Empire State Building shooting and claiming the shooter was gay. Detestable images, all designed to inspire fear and hatred.
Here are some excerpts of this bit of hate mongering, which Dollard reposted from the right wing gossip rag, Townhall.com.
Sowell, who is black, originally posted his piece under the title, "A Censored Race War?"
When two white newspaper reporters for the Virginian-Pilot were driving through Norfolk, and were set upon and beaten by a mob of young blacks -- beaten so badly that they had to take a week off from work -- that might seem to have been news that should have been reported, at least by their own newspaper. But it wasn't.
Similar episodes of unprovoked violence by young black gangs against white people chosen at random on beaches, in shopping malls or in other public places have occurred in Philadelphia, New York, Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, Washington, Los Angeles and other places across the country. Both the authorities and the media tend to try to sweep these episodes under the rug as well.
Sowell doesn't go into the reason why these were not reported as "white on black" race crimes. In some instances... they didn't happen. He reports on two white reporters for a Virginia newspaper who claim to have been set upon, at random, by a group of "wilding" black youths. The reason the newspaper didn't report it? It did not happen. At least, not the way Sowell reported it.
The Editor of the Virginia-Pilot posted this memo to his staff.
Staff,
Here is what happened with Dave and Marjon. They were victims of what police described as a simple assault and, initially, they did not want to be named in a story. If these were the circumstances with any other people in the community, we would not have done a story.
The truth is, we have no idea what motivated the attack. Was it a gang or a gathering? Did it just happen or was something planned? Was it racially motivated or random? We just don't know.
Months after the attack, MSNBC.com wrote about the incident:
The two suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by paramedics.
Hardly the sort of injuries one would expect of reporters injured by "wave after wave of crazed, black youths."
But the white racists WANT a story. The black members of the tea party, for whatever reason, WANT their race to be seen as a violent group of animals. Perhaps this is how they can attack the credibility of the "media" and achieve the tea party goals, which -- believe me -- any thinking black person would not see as being in his or her best interests.
But the question we have, the question we should all have, is...
Why is Mitt Romney's Social Media Director, Bill Murphy, retweeting the editorialized, race-baiting version of a repost of someone's blog that gives the story an even more racially-charged headline than the original writer posted in the first place?
Is the Romney campaign saying "Those Who Deny The Black-On-White Race War Do So At The Nation’s Peril"? It would seem so, as Bill Murphy, who tweets under the handle @billmurphy, is listed on his profile as "Social Media Director of the Romney/Ryan campaign.
This is not the first story to hit the Internet today about Murphy.
This piece on Democratic Daily (which takes a bit to load as the site is currently under cyber attack by right wing forces according to the website MyWot -- which is something this writer knows about as he has had to take protective measures against such attacks on his own private blog) tells of Murphy's long association with convicted thief and debit card fraud felon Ali Akbar, who is currently off to Tampa to raise more money for his Vice and Victory agency through a big fundraiser called "Blog Bash."
Someone needs to ask Mitt Romney if HE believes that those who deny the black-on-white race war do so at their own peril. Does his social media director speak with the voice of the Romney/Ryan campaign? If so, can Romney defend this charge? If not, why does the kid still have a job?
