Georgia Health Sciences University Police Officers were not expecting such a sight when the walked into a locker room on campus. What they fould was a lab tech, pants down, drunk and surrounded by escaped monkeys.
Coley Oneal Mitchell, a thirty-two year old university lab tech, was initially found by a fellow employee in a locker room of the Sanders R&E Building. When the fellow employee noticed that Mitchell was intoxicated and
"partially unclothed", they contacted campus police.
According to the
GHSU Police report:
On 08/13/2012, at 10:24 PM, GHSU Police responded to the Sanders R&E Building (CB) in reference an intoxicated employee. Officers made contact with the subject in the Lab Animal Services area, who became combative and uncooperative. The subject was taken into custody for Public Drunkenness.
Officers also noticed that two monkeys were outside their cages, but confined to the room according to the
Augusta Chronicle. The monkeys were unharmed.
Mitchell was booked on
$2500 bond into the Richmond County Jail on August 14th, but was released on August 17th.
GHSU spokeswoman Jennifer Hilliard Scott, senior media relations coordinator, stated that Mitchell has been terminated and went on to
say:
"GHSU does not condone behavior that conflicts with the research, education and clinical missions of the university and employees are expected to conduct themselves, at all times, with integrity and respect,"
