article imageOp-Ed: Politics involving racism, hatred, rape, and abortion

By Nancy Houser     Aug 23, 2012 in Politics
The American people appear to love being conned, easily taken in without effort or risk on their part. And when political debates involve racism, hatred, the penis, rape, and abortion --- it involves a lack of common sense and logic, and sheer stupidity.
Rape, Sex and a Woman's Body
Women and human beings are being compared to female ducks by a Missouri politician. Talking Points Memo quotes Rep. Todd Akin's statements, "if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Also, VP candidate Paul Ryan has signed on to Akin's House bill redefining rape.
In other words, if a female is raped she is unable to become pregnant unless she is aroused, which debunks the female's accusation of rape. Women, young girls and female children who became pregnant from being brutally raped were obviously aroused, according to Akin's theory. Yet scientific studies have shown that only female ducks have evolved in such a way that they have a biological anti-pregnancy response to forced sex. Akin's remark has widened the gender gap between humans, ducks and political parties.
“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview posted Sunday. Yet in a 1996 study by the American Journal of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, it was found that “rape-related pregnancy occurs with significant frequency” and is “a cause of many unwanted pregnancies” — an estimated “32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year.”f
According to Before It's News, the GOP platform anti-abortion language includes no exceptions for rape or incest.
Another amendment, proposed by a delegate from North Carolina, supports banning the RU-486 pill and similar drugs that end pregnancies. Jackie Curtiss, a delegate from Alabama, objected, saying in light of Akin’s recent comments about rape, it sends the wrong signal to women. The amendment passed after others on the committee said the resolution would not affect the “Morning After” pill.
Penis politics
Republicans of Arizona have passed the birther bill in the state's Senate (20-to-9 party line vote) and House, now waiting for the signature of Arizona's Republican Governor Jan Brewer.
According to Mother Jones, Arizona's presidential candidates must provide a long-form birth certificate: an "early census record," a signed post-partum medical record, a hospital birth record (also known as a certificate of live birth), or a baptismal or circumcision certificate. Yet, if you pull out your penis to show the circumcision (or not), you will be labeled a sex offender.
Racism of the African American
The election of Barack Obama as president was hoped to be an important step toward a post-racial America, where racism and hatred would be consigned to "the dustbin of American history." According to Stewart Synopsis, Obama was not the first U.S. president to have an African-American background, even though his political journey has re-ignited the topic of racism and hatred.
"If any branch of your family has been in America since the 17th or 18th centuries," Dr. Berlin, a professor of American history at the University of Maryland and the founding director of the Freedmen and Southern Society Project said, "it's highly likely you will find an African and an American Indian."
This was the beginning of the "one-drop rule" used during slavery; the Jim Crow period of segregation in the South and upheld in southern courts. The was a decree that defined a person black, if one drop of African ancestry was in a person’s lineage. According to Stewart's Synopsis, "Dr. Charles B. Copher, godfather of biblical scholars of African descent, in his famous lecture, 'Black People In And Of The Bible' stated 'Black people range from chalk to charcoal'."
And as far as presidents went, Warren Harding, the 29th U.S. president, never denied his black heritage, having black ancestors between both sets of parents. And Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of the U.S., was said to be a son of a half-breed Indian squaw and a Virginia mulatto father. When Jefferson's mother died, he destroyed all her personal effects and paperwork. Future DNA testing would show that he was the father of Sally Heming's children, his favorite slave.
William Herndon's 1938 book, "The Hidden Lincoln", shows that Abraham Lincoln was the illegitimate son of an African man, with his mother admitting that his father was a black man. As Lincoln's law partner, Herndon is reported as saying Lincoln's acknowledged father could never have been his real father as the man had become sterile as a child when he developed the mumps. This would cause him to be castrated later on. Besides, President was described as having very dark skin, coarse hair, with a mother from an Ethiopian tribe.
Virginia Magazine of History stated Jackson was the son of an Irish woman who married a black man. The magazine also stated that Jackson's oldest brother had been sold as a slave. It appeared that General Jackson’s mother was a common prostitute … brought to this country by the British soldiers! She eventually would marry a mulatto man, with Andrew Jackson as one of her many children.
Political hatred
Raw Story has come out with an article titled, "Republican judge in Texas warns of ‘civil war’ if Obama reelected." Of course, the article was originally interviewed with Fox News, which causes an instant lack of credibility for Lubbock County Judge Tom Head --- facing calls for his resignation since 1999.
“I’m thinking the worst,” he [Head] deadpanned. “Civil unrest, civil disobedience, civil war maybe. And we’re not just talking a few riots here and demonstrations, we’re talking Lexington, Concord, take up arms and get rid of the guy. Now what’s going to happen if we do that? If the public decides to do that? He’s going to send in U.N. troops.”
