article imageVideo: RT nominated for Emmy Award for Occupy coverage

By Anne Sewell     Aug 22, 2012 in World
Washington - RT News has been nominated for an Emmy Award for its coverage of the Occupy Wall Street movement. While the mainstream media either ignored or mocked, RT gave coverage from day one.
RT is one of seven news organizations nominated for the international Emmy Awards, under the category "Current Awards and News."
The Occupy Wall Street started in September 2011, and at first the mainstream media ignored them. Once they did start reporting on the Occupy movement, the MSM mocked the movement, as can be seen in the video.
The Occupy movement started with thousands of protesters in the streets of New York, speaking out against what they see as government corruption in handling the economy. The movement grew to many major cities all over the U.S. and the world. And RT was there.
RT covered protests in the major cities, exposed the police brutality against protesters and generally gave an excellent view of what was happening in the movement, including the shooting of Scott Olsen in the Oakland protest and interviewing police captain Ray Lewis, otherwise known as the "Occupy Cop."
Various journalists from RT discuss the Occupy movement and its achievements so far.
