There is a new Canadian entertainment couple on the scene as two high-profile pop singers from Canada have become engaged. Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, he of the gravely voice, is going to marry strong-voiced, fellow-Canadian Avril Lavigne.
The story was first broke by
People magazine and confirmed by a note on Nickelback's
website that simply said “Congrats Chad and Avril!”. The two reportedly met last February when they got together to write a song for Lavigne's next album and their romance was not detected by media. Kroeger popped the question with a 14-carot diamond ring.
For Kroeger, 37, from Hanna, Alberta, it will be his first marriage. Lavigne, 27, from Napanee, Ontario, was married for three years to Deryck Whibley, also a musician, from the band Sum 41; that marriage ending in 2009 but the two remain friends, with Whibley since producing her fourth album, 'Goodbye, Lullaby'.
Each are also guitarists and gifted songwriters. Nickelback hits include
How You Remind Me and
Someday while Lavigne has had big hits with songs such as
Sk8er Boi and
Complicated. People magazine quoted a source as telling them that Kroeger "makes her so happy" and that "both of their families could not be more excited."
No date has been announced for the nuptials.
