The Bangkok Post reports
that the unnamed woman, a member of the Musur hill tribe in Chiang Mai, butchered her five-year-old and one-year-old sons before cooking and eating them because she believed they were pigs.
"The woman killed her children because she didn't continue her treatment and didn't take her medication," Mental Health Department deputy director general Kiattiphum Wongrachit told the Bangkok Post
on Tuesday. The woman has reportedly been under treatment for mental illness since 2007.
Law enforcement officers allegedly found the woman asleep with the boys' body parts strewn around her. She is currently in Suan Prung Hospital under close watch before being informed that her sons are dead. The hospital is also checking to determine if she is a drug addict.
The woman has been charged with murder, but she has also been declared unfit to stand trial due to her mental illness.
