Williamsport - 13-year old outfielder Thomas Neal could have the attention of the majors after his amazing catch on day two of the Little League World Series.
It was the bottom of the third inning after Vancouver, Canada had just taken a 10-8 lead over the squad from Nuevo Loredo, Mexico. The Mexican team had two-outs and a runner on first when Eduardo Abrego hit a sinker to left-centre field. The Toronto Star says Neal dived for the catch with his glove outstretched and snapped up the ball just before it hit the turf, to end the inning.
The CBC quotes Vancouver pitcher Ataru Yamaguchi saying, “The moment I saw it, I just had this feeling he was going to catch it.”“I told him he was my best friend now,” the 13-year-old joked. “He wasn’t before. He was my fourth (best friend), just to clarify.”
The Toronto Star says the game was a slugfest with 27-hits but the strong Vancouver defence held on to beat Nuevo Laredo 13-9.
The Little League World Series continues until August 26.
