Whitehall - A bride-to-be is being charged with murder for fatally stabbing her fiancé just hours before their wedding was supposed to take place Saturday in Pennsylvania.
Na Cola Darcel Franklin, 31 and her fiancé Billy Rafael Brewster, 36, were reportedly scheduled to be married Saturday at 10 am, but the two began arguing during the night, and things took a violent, fatal turn, Steve Luksa, first deputy to the Lehigh County District Attorney, told ABC News.
According to police, Franklin stabbed Brewster twice with a kitchen knife. One of the stabbings "punctured his heart," Luksa said.
Franklin has been charged with criminal homicide, the Daily Mail reports.
Franklin was reportedly shocked not only by her fiancé's death, but by the fact that she was being charged with his murder.
According to Lehigh's The Morning Call newspaper, Franklin pleaded to the judge at her arraignment Saturday that she had "to check again" that her fiancé was indeed dead.
"He was pronounced dead by the Lehigh County coroner earlier today," District Judge Donna Butler responded.
"I want my family back. I want to go home," Franklin cried.
Butler told Franklin she "would not be going home anytime in the near future."
"I did not mean to kill him on purpose," Franklin sobbed to Butler, the NY Daily News reports.
Franklin is being held at the Lehigh County Prison without bail, Steve Luksa told ABC News.
Brewster was found by police bleeding from his chest at around 2 am Saturday, the Daily Mail reports.
He was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital at 3:24 am Lehigh County District attorney Jim Martin said according to The Morning Call.
Steve Engel, a neighbor of the couple's, said the pastor who was scheduled to perform the ceremony showed up at the apartment after failing to reach the bride and groom to be, the Daily Mail reports. A number of friends and family due to attend the wedding also stopped by the apartment throughout the day.
Sara Arnold, another neighbor, told Lehigh Valley Live that the news of the murder "really shocked" her. "It made me sick to my stomach," she said. "I didn't think there were any issues there."
