Former Miami Dolphins WR Chad Johnson has been released by the organization following his arrest on charges of domestic violence.
Johnson
posted $2,500 bail this morning after being arrested Saturday night following a fight with his wife, Evelyn Lozada.
Davie Police Department Captain Dale Engle disclosed that Johnson allegedly head-butted Lozada during a
"heated" argument.
Engle stated that Lozada had a laceration on her forehead, and that the argument between the 40-day old newlyweds was over a receipt for a box of condoms found by Lozada. The high-profile couple were
married July 4th with their nuptials recorded for a VH1 reality show Ev & Ocho.
Johnson maintains that the head-butt was an accident, but the
Dolphin's decision to cut the 34-year old has come about 24 hours following the arrest. This is Johnson's first encounter with the law in his 11 years in the NFL.
Only five days ago, audiences watched Miami's rookie head coach Joe Philbin address the veteran wide receiver's conduct on VH1's reality show
Hard Knocks, after Johnson had sworn excessively at a press conference. Johnson and Lozada were featured prevalently in the premiere.
Johnson, a native of Miami, had signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins. Following his worst season as a professional last year in New England, there wasn't much interest in the man once known as Ochocinco.
Still, Johnson could end up with a roster spot before pre-season training camps convene.
