article imageReview: Audio Technica AT2020 Microphone Special

By Henry Cole     Aug 12, 2012 in Technology
The Audio Technica AT2020 microphone is a side address cardioid microphone for amateur audio enthusiasts looking for a good quality microphone which won't break the bank.
The AT2020 is a stylish and solid microphone. It feels a good quality build and comes at a very reasonable price.
The microphone is mostly targeted at amateurs rather than professionals. To someone who has previously only used basic PC microphones, or built in PC or webcam ones, this is certainly a great sounding microphone. It's ideal for amateur musicians wanting a great sounding recording, or perhaps podcasters and HAM radio presenters. However, to audio professionals it lacks the clarity, definition, and quality sought after in professional studio microphones, for example a much better sound across all frequencies can be obtained from other similar products.
The microphone is also prone to "popping", so it is recommended to buy a pop filter in order to obtain the best quality of recording.
In conclusion, this isn't a professional microphone, but it's fantastic for amateurs and won't break the bank. Strongly recommended for podcasters and amateur musicians or radio presenters.
