Rapper/producer Sean "Diddy" Combs could be the newest judge on Fox's "American Idol," The NY Post reports. Producers of the show are rumored to have reached out to Combs.
According to the NY Post, the show has an open spot at the judge's table since Aerosmith's Steven Tyler decided to leave.
Diddy, however, is rumored to not have shown much interest in Fox's offer, E! reports. The belief is that Fox might not be able to pay the Bad Boy Records founder enough. They have agreed to pay Mariah Carey $17 million for her stint as judge on American Idol, and $15 for Britney Spears for the X-Factor.
According to the Boston Herald, singer/actress Alanis Morrisette, country star Brad Paisley, and young pop star Nick Jonas are also rumored to be in talks with the show.
"I'm in talks with somebody right now. I can't name any names, but I'm pretty excited about doing it more formally...yep, I still have to investigate further and that's all I can say," Morrisette said. There is much speculation that American Idol is the show she has to "investigate."
Another artist/producer rumored to be joining the long-running reality competition show is Pharrell Williams. The NY Daily News reports that the rapper/producer/fashion designer has told members of Star Trak Entertainment, his record label, that he has been talks with Fox, and will likely join his friends Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey on the judges panel.
Reps for both Williams and "Idol" had no comment.
Last month, US Weekly reported that original cast member Randy Jackson will no longer be a judge, but will instead serve as a mentor for contestants.
The show's 12th season is set to debut in early 2013.
