At 4 p.m. yesterday or 10 hours ago as of this writing, I and my whole household were surprised that all of a sudden rescue vehicles parked in front of our house. Momentarily, we're informed a landslide happened at the backyard of one of our neighbors.
The Rescue Team and policemen from Olongapo City Police Office came to rescue our neighbor Meg from the landslide right at his backyard. The exact location of the incident is Upper Rizal Extension Street, Mnggahan, Barretto, Olongapo City, Zambales, Philippines. This is same place where I live.
The spot of the landslide is about 150 meters away from my house going through a foot trail alley uphill. The area is practically a mountain side and my house is at the foot of same mountain.
Meg's house is situated at a carved portion of the western side of the mountain slope. At the eastern side of Meg's home is the slope formerly part of the dug out portion where the house was built. The team scraped and removed the earth debris that partly (almost totally) buried Meg's house wherein he was trapped inside.
The landslide was triggered by the loosened slope of the mountain due to continuous rains for two weeks now. It indicated the severity of the rains. Fortunately, Megs was not hurt and only minimal damage on his house. This incident was the first I ever saw after 12 years being a resident in the area.
