Hasbro, the manufacturers of Monopoly, are to release a new Doctor Who version of the popular board game, to coincide with the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the BBC’s science-fiction drama series.
There already exists a Doctor Who Monopoly set, released in 2011, but the latest version will expand on that.
Monopoly is thought to date back to 1903. Since then there have been many official, and unofficial, variations. Official Monopoly variations already include several film- and TV-related versions, including The Wizard of Oz, Star Trek, Coronation Street and The Simpsons.
According to Doctor Who News, the new version is being launched to “Celebrate 50 years of the world’s favourite time lord [sic] with […] all eleven doctors, the best loved companions and of course, the monsters and baddies from across space and time, from the Brigadier and Captain Jack to Jo, Susan and Ace. Play with extra special Dr Who tokens, including the Dr’s scarf, designed just for this edition! It’s an adventure like no other as you revisit 50 years of this amazing show!”
Doctor Who 50th Anniversary “Collectors Edition” Monopoly will be released later this month, but is available to pre-order now from Forbidden Planet.
