Country singer Randy Travis could be in big trouble after being caught stark naked behind the wheel after crashing his car and then refusing to give a breathalyser sample to police.
TMZ is reporting that Travis was arrested last night near Dallas, Texas on suspicion of DWI after crashing his car. He suffered only minor cuts and bruises but the strange part of the story is that the country star was apparently stark naked when police arrived on the scene.
ABC News says Travis is facing charges including driving while intoxicated and threatening law enforcement officers after police say he became combative at the scene. Police say the singer refused to provide a breath sample so a blood specimen was taken. He was freed on $21,500 bail pending his court appearance in Sherman, about 60 miles north of Dallas. Results of the blood test are pending.
Grayson County Sheriff's Sgt. Rickey Wheeler tells ABC, "Travis had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and several signs of intoxication." "While Travis was being transported, Travis made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case."
A spokesman for the country singer says there will not be any immediate comment on the incident.
ABC News reports the Texas Department of Public safety says a Pontiac Trans Am registered to the 53-year old had driven off the road around midnight Tuesday and struck several barricades in a construction zone.
USA Today says this isn't the first time Travis has been in trouble with the law. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication in February outside a North Texas church, as Digital Journal reported. He apologized for the incident.
ABC reports he is also in the midst of a messy court case with his ex-wife and former manager. Elizabeth Travis, who was his manager for more than 30 years and his wife of 19 years, filed a lawsuit claiming Travis made it impossible for her to do her job and fired her without proper notice. She claims her ex-husband sent several men including an armed guard to clean out her office. Travis launched a counter suit a few months later, accusing his ex-wife of releasing confidential information about him in order to ruin his reputation and career.
