A reported fire brought around 90 firefighters to the 88th floor of 1 World Trade Center this morning. It turns out it was a false alarm, and was only a worker welding.
The Washington Post and the
Wall Street Journal have said that the fire was reported shortly after 8.a.m. and that emergency workers are on the scene.
Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the site,
said the fire report was called in by a member of the public. He says it was believed to be a false alarm.
Motorists are told to expect heavy traffic delays as a result.
